Today is the local elections day in Korea. Heads of local governments, such as mayors and provincial governors, are elected today. City councilors and superintendents are also elected at the same time. Officials who are elected today have a four-year term. The ruling and opposition parties have nominated their candidates for each electoral district. People who are 19 years of age can vote. You have to be at least 25 to run for office. Election day is designated as a public holiday. Polling stations are open from 6 am to 6 pm. Voters bring their pictured IDs and cast their votes at their local polling stations. TV stations announce exit polls as soon as voting ends.

 

오늘은 한국의 지방 선거가 있는 날입니다. 시장, 도지사와 같은 지방 자치 단체장들이 오늘 선출됩니다. 뿐만 아니라 시 의회 의원과 교육감 등도 선출됩니다. 오늘 당선된 공직자들은 4년간의 임기를 수행하게 됩니다. 여당과 야당은 각 선거 지역구별로 후보자를 공천했습니다. (선거일 기준으로) 만 19세면 투표를 할 수 있습니다. 공직에 출마하기 위해선 최소 만 25세가 되어야 합니다. 지방 선거일은 공휴일로 지정되니다. 투표소는 오전 6시부터 오후 6시까지 열려 있습니다. 유권자들은 사진이 있는 신분증을 들고 가서 해당 지역 투표소에서 투표권을 행사합니다. TV 방송국들은 투표가 마감되는 대로 출구 조사 결과를 발표합니다.
