One thing foreigners will notice about Korea is that there are an amazing number of Internet cafes all over the country. They're practically everywhere! An Internet cafe is called a "PC bang" in Korean, which literally means a "PC room." Of course, the vast majority of Korean households have access to a computer and the Internet. But still, these Internet cafes thrive because people want Internet access while they're outside. Another reason for their popularity is that many Koreans are into multiplayer games. Friends come to these palces to enjoy these games together. Others come to Internet cafes to chat with their friends or update their blogs or mini-homepages. Some simply come to kill time while surfing the web. At ten o'clock at night though, teenagers are asked to leave because it's against the law to have teens at Internet cafes after that hour.

 

해석

외국인들이 한국에 와서 특이하다고 느끼는 점 중의 하나는 전국 도처에 PC방이 엄청나게 많이 있다는 것입니다. 사실상 PC방이 없는 곳이 거의 없다고 보면 됩니다. 이러한 곳을 한국어로는 PC방이라고 부르는데, 말 그대로 PC가 있는 공간을 의미합니다. 물론 절대 다수의 한국 가정에는 컴퓨터와 인터넷이 보급되어 있습니다. 그렇지만 여전히 이러한 PC방이 번창하는 이유는 사람들이 밖에 나가 있는 동안에도 인터넷을 사용하고 싶어하기 때문입니다. PC방이 인기 있는 또 다른 이유는 많은 한국 사람들이 멀티플레이어 게임을 좋아하기 때문입니다. 친구들끼리 PC방에 모여서 이러한 게임을 함께 즐깁니다. 그리고 어떤 사람들은 친구들과 채팅을 하거나 자신의 블로그 혹은 미니홈피를 업데이트 하기 위해서 PC방에 옵니다. 그리고 웹서핑을 하면서 단순히 시간을 때우러 PC방에 오는 사람들도 있습니다. 그렇지만 청소년들은 밤 10시가 되면 PC방에서 나가야 합니다. 10시 이후에 청소년들이 PC방에 출입하는 것은 불법이기 때문입니다.
