English-learning craze

There has been an English-learning craze in Korea for a long time.  Kids start to learn English as early as kindergarten. Many parents give up other expenses to send their children to extracurricular language schools. Trillions of won are spent on private-sector English education every single year. People also learn English through online video lectures, or through programs on TV or radio. Adults are not free from the English-learning fever either. College students study English for better career prospects. Many large companies require English test scores from their employees regulary. At times, it seems like the whole country is learning English. There is no sign of this craze winding down anytime soon. 

 

한국에서는 오랫동안 영어 배우기 열풍이 지속되어 왔습니다. 학생들음 심지어 유치원 때부터 영어를 배우기 시작합니다. 자녀를 사설 어학원에 보내기 위해 다른 생활비를 아껴 쓰는 부모들도 많습니다. 매해 영어 사교육비로 지출되는 비용이 수조 원에 이릅니다. 사람들은 온라인 강좌나 TV 또는 라디오 프로그램 등을 통해서도 영어를 배웁니다. 성인이라고 해서 영어 배우기 열풍을 피해 가지는 못합니다. 대학생들도 진로 전망을 더 좋게 하기 위해 영어 공부를 해야 합니다. 더불어 많은 기업들이 직원들에게 정기적으로 영어 시험 점수를 제출하라고 요구합니다. 마치 전 국민이 영어를 배우고 있는 것 같은 인상을 받을 때도 있습니다. 그리고 이러한 열풍이 쉽게 식을 기미는 없어 보입니다.
